John Rose at Gallery 27

John Rose

Artist John Rose will be exhibiting a collection of outstanding contemporary photographic based works at Gallery 27 on Cork Street this summer – 11–16th July 2011. The artist, who focuses on the movement, texture and tranquillity of water, will be exhibiting his series Water MMXI whichexplores, with incredible intricacy, the fleeting moments of moving water.

Rose brings a perceptive originality to contemporary photography; he understands and captures the inherent seasonal elements that affect the look of the water and the way it moves. The weather creates a ceaseless variety of colour, pattern and texture, all of which are translated flawlessly into print by the artist.

Rose features in Quintessentially Living, the 2011 edition presenting a carefully selected collection of the finest luxury design and home lifestyle companies in the UK and Ireland. The exclusive concierge service has commented on Rose’s exhibition - “Quintessentially Publishing is proud to be associated with John Rose in their second edition of Quintessentially Living. Quintessentially members and guests will gather to discover this exciting exhibition in exclusive preview for an evening’s private viewing.”

With photography, particularly the instantaneous photographs that have become indicative of modern day society, opportunity plays an enormous role in the creation of the image. John Rose embraces these ‘opportunities’. He rejects the elaborate staging and digital manipulation of photography and in its place captures an ‘untouched’ moment. Rose is interested in the unaffected spontaneity of an instant; he states “these influences, such as... water speed, particles suspended, temperature, wind, cloud cover, seasonal and emotional circumstances, provide a boundless palette for exploration.”

The transience of water is central to his work; the artist presents images that are indicative of the passing of time. He creates an interesting dialogue between the viewer and the work, the work and the artist, and the artist and the viewer – Rose has captured an ephemeral moment and shared it with his audience.

John Rose was born in Devon in 1977. After studying Theology at Bristol University, Rose moved to London where he attended Drama Studio London.
