The Facts:
Arnold’s interest in photography began in 1946, when she worked for a photo-finishing plant in New York City. She learnt basic photographic skills in 1948 from Harper's Bazaar art director Alexei Brodovitch at the New School for Social Research in New York and became one of the few female members of Magnum Photos agency in 1951, becoming a full member in 1954.

Arnold is best known for her intimate images of actress Marilyn Monroe on the set of Monroe's last (1961) film, The Misfits but has also photographed Queen Elizabeth II, Malcolm X, and Joan Crawford amongst many others. Arnold travelled extensively photographing in China, Russia, South Africa and Afghanistan.
Arnold lives in Britain.
