Our Tips For Stock Photography Success

Stock tips

All agencies post submission details on their websites, so study them and ensure your equipment is up to the specification.

An artist without a website is not considered professional in most cases, so let your site be an indication of your taste and style, as well as content. Agencies are bound to check it.

If your site is predominantly commercial and not suitable for stock, add a link or page showing a good range of work available, as well as your personal work. Then you can send the link with the required documentation.

All images submitted to stock agencies should be uncompressed 47.5-52MB TIFF files (flattened, with no layers, paths or channels), 24-bit RGB Color, 8 bits per channel (8-bit file).

Only use high-quality scanners and do not use dust removing programs.

Don’t forget model releases, property releases and separate child release forms.

See stock as a ‘long ball’ game, not as a ‘get rich quick’ scheme.

For sending in your submission these are the best options:

Website – Email a link to your portfolio or web gallery.

Email – Submit low-res samples of your work.

DVD/CD – Send in a disc of low-res images, organised in a clear format.
