The facts:

Gordon Parks was the first African American to work for Life magazine. He established himself as a world-renowned photographer chronicling the civil rights movement over two decades. His work for Vogue magazine established him as a master of fashion photography. In 1988 he was awarded the National medal of arts and received over fifty honorary doctorates through out his career.
