Professional Photographer Podcast 1
Professional Photographer editor Grant Scott and deputy editor Eleanor O'Kane are joined by photographer Peter Dench in a discussion of the list of ' The 25 Bad Boys of Photography' in the August issue of the magazine. The debate centres on the diverse lives of the photographers who made the final list, including Guy Bourdin, David Bailey, Helmut Newton, David Hockney and Wolfgang Tillmans, whose acceptance of the Turner Prize in 2000 was widely criticised.
Some of the photographers were included in the list partly due to their personal lives and predilections, like Carlo Mollino who secretly photographed prostitutes for 30 years for his own private collection; others pushed the boundaries in order to get their images, such as hardcore Vietnam photojournalist Tim Page, who never flinched from an assignment and whose colleagues bet on whether or not he'd make his 23rd birthday. All of the 25 have broken the rules in one way or another.
The panel discusses the lives of the photographers and looks at whether or not being a 'bad boy' is merely a facade for some photographers.
