2011 And/or Book Awards: call for submissions
• initial deadline for 2011 And/or Book Awards - Monday 1 November 2010
• £10,000 for the year’s best books on photography and the moving image
• judging panels to be chaired by Mary McCartney and Hugh Hudson
James Bond film producer and photography collector, Michael G Wilson, has been appointed Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Kraszna-Krausz Foundation, the charitable organisation that presents the And/or Book Awards.
The annual awards celebrate excellence in photography and moving image publishing (film and television), with prize money of up to £10,000 divided between the categories of Best Photography Book and Best Moving Image Book. Submissions are now open for the 2011 And/or Book Awards, with the prize winners announced at an awards ceremony in April.
Michael G Wilson comments:
“As chair of the Kraszna-Krausz Foundation, I am delighted to be involved with the And/or Book Awards which bring together my two greatest passions, photography and film. The prizes awarded in 2011 will highlight the very best books published on these subjects.”
The two judging panels for the awards will be chaired by renowned photographer Mary McCartney and Academy Award nominated director, Hugh Hudson. The photography panel is completed by Yuka Yamaji, Head of Photographs at Christie’s, and David Campany, Reader in Photography at the University of Westminster and previous And/or Book Award winner. Hudson will be joined on the moving image panel by Sir Christopher Frayling, who has published extensively on art, design, popular culture and film, and writer and Guardian film critic, Peter Bradshaw.
All titles that meet the award guidelines and have been published or distributed in the UK between 1 January and 31 December 2010 may be eligible for submission to the 2011 And/or Book Awards. The initial deadline for entries is Monday 1 November 2010, but any book published by 31 December may be submitted up to this date.
The judges will be looking for works which make a significant contribution to photographic and/or moving image scholarship, history, research, criticism, science and conservation. Submission guidelines and entry forms can be found at www.andorbookawards.org
Following the awards, all eligible submissions join the Kraszna-Krausz collection of photography and moving image books in the library of the National Media Museum in Bradford.
