Last chance to apply for W. Eugene Smith grant

Last chance to apply for W. Eugene Smith grant

W. Eugene Smith’s unforgettable images, such as Tomoko in the Bath, were created by a suffering soul for whom life was a struggle. That is one of the reasons his memorial fund seeks to encourage photographers who work against the ‘fashions and economics of modern publishing’ to apply for the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund 2012 grant in Humanistic Photography.

The Fund was established in 1979 to support independent voices. In the first thirty years of competition, from many thousands of proposals, the Fund selected 303 finalists who were seeking help in finishing major projects. Between 1980 and 2009, thirty-two recipients from fourteen different countries were recognized.

Deadline 8. June 2012
