Olympic committee encourages photo sharing
Photo sharing through Instagram and Getty Images will be a key elemet of the social media activity surrounding the Olympics, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced.
The IOC has launched an Olympic Athletes' Hub where a photographic wall run by instagram, called Faces of Olympians, will be updated daily with photos of the athletes from inside the Olympic village. The Athletes' Hub will also offer users the opportunity to ask athletes questions and receive real-time responses.
The Athletes' Hub includes a Tumblr blog with images anc commentary by Getty photographers from inside the village, olympicmoments.tumblr.com, and a live fashion feed, olympicfashion.tumblr.com.
Photographers wanting to participate in the photo sharing will be able to post their photos to the IOC's Facebook page, where a photo competition will be launched on the 26th of July, offering the chance to win tickets to the Olympic games.
New social media platform integrations recently unveiled include an Olympic Games G+ page and an Olympic Instagram account (@Olympics), while an Olympic Tumblr mobile and web integration will be launched in the coming days. The IOC has welcomed more than 30,000 followers on Instagram in only 60 days, while approximately 600,000 followers have joined the G+ page.
