ABC's Now and Then photography project to be displayed in Kalgoorlie
On Friday September 7, images from ABC Open's Now and Then photography project will go on display at the West Australian Museum Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
Rare images of past town’s folk that walked the streets of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the surrounding Goldfields a century ago, will be shared during ABC Open's Now and Then photography project.
The technique of overlaying an old photograph onto the same location of the town in the modern day provides a contextual insight into the history surrounding the Gold city.
Eastern Goldfields Historical Society president Scott Wilson likens the affect of this project to time travel. He said when it comes to historical images, a picture really does tell 1000 words, “You can extract a lot of information from very old images of street scenes and people, the visual telling of a story is a powerful thing, to be able to see what was there, how it was done and what it actually looked like is a very difficult to describe,” he said. “The more we can learn about the past, the greater sense of community we gain about where we've come from, the significance and the hardships and what makes Kalgoorlie-Boulder what it is.”
Now and Then will be on display until Friday September 28 at the West Australian Museum Kalgoorlie-Boulder. For more information click here.
