US Orphan Works again.
Posted: Sun Jun 29, 2008 9:33pmI have talked about the US Orphans works legislation back in May. Here we are with a month to go, there is still the whole of July for the US Senate and House of Representatives to decide what they are going to do about the US Orphans bill. Little has changed it seems in the past week, except that even the bills (only) two creators organisations supporting it are now unanimously against the Senate version of the bill. Both the Graphic Artists Guild and the American Society of Media Photographers are urging their members to write to their senators and object to the bill. Both do still support the House of Representatives version of the bill however, which is still a bad deal for creators. (More info here from the Illustrators Partnership)
My contacts at the Illustrators Partnership have asked all those who care (that should be all of us J ) to sign the following petition - A Million People Against the Orphan Works Bill . I have signed it; it would be great if all of you could too.
I also wrote about Kiwi photographer Trent Keegan. It is a month since the tragic and senseless killing of this well liked ‘gentle giant’, and there was an incredibly detailed story of what has been discovered so far on the excellent PDN Newsletter.
I shall be following this particular story very closely, and I for one will be expecting the Kenyan Police to issue a proper statement in the very near future.
