Post Subject: Pentax K20D in a pro workflow?

It may not be touted as a 'pro' camera, but does this genuinely affect the images you can produce with such a camera? At the end of the day if your images are good enough in the field that you work, then does it matter which body or brand you use? Sure there's technically better cameras out there, but the Pentax offers a mobile solution that may be of value to travel photographers and the like. Your thoughts...?

It really depends on what glass you are tied to. I contemplated (pre D3) changing to canon but it would have cost the thick end of £20K

I'm inclined to agree too. There's no reason not to use old film cameras if that's the setup that you've got and costs are covered - assuming the lenses are decent and you have a rapid lab and scanning service.

The Sony Alpha a700 is probably my favourite in that class of camera... It just feels really nice to use. It's not top top end compared to some other kit, but like you say "blame the tools" etc

PENTAX every time-I use my older screw and bayonet lenses on my K10D and get wonderful results and don't waste the money I paid (although I got a lot of them given to me!)

It works for me. I have used the K10D for a number of weddings this year and some studio shoots. It has not let me down as I always try and get the shot right in camera first. It if flexible enough to do this. I am tempted to move up to the K20D for the improved high ISO capability as I am already a fan of the Pentax system solidity and use in my hand. I'm also not a snob brand. I rate the Sony A700 in the same league but with I'm guessing a better exposure metering system.
