Post Subject: selling digital images

hi there. I am new to this forum, and i am also new to photography business. I am starting a photography business as a children photographer, selling prints to parents. I recently did some shots at a children event, to do some advertising for me, and the organiser of the event want some digital images for them. I have no idea if i should charge them and how much i should charge them per images, as this is not really what i am basing my work on. Anybody out there can help???? Thanks a lot!

It may be an idea to go to a commercial event and get an idea of your overheads for printing costs, plus your own time. Weigh up what other peoples' costs are - do some internet searches, perhaps even phone some people up and figure how you can deliver a quality product that's competitive. Also, don't forget that photographing children often carries something of a stigma - you have to make sure that you're officially checked so people can invest their confidence in you (see CRB check article on front page). Al the best.

So how did you handle this in the end? It's an interesting business niche and I wonder how it's going.

Think of all the School Photography companies out there selling package print deals and all the parents who own their own digital cameras now and are satisfied with that - you will struggle!
