Hasselblad broadens its appeal
Hasselblad is launching a 50-megapixel medium-format camera, the H3DII-50. Meanwhile, it has slashed the price of its 31-megapixel model.
The high-end camera uses Kodak's new KAF-50100 sensor, which is about twice as big as the largest available 35mm sensor. The camera captures full-size compressed images at 70MB and is fully compatible with all current Hasselblad HC and HCD lenses. It will be available from October and sell for £22,000.
The dramatic price drop on the H3DII-31 -- from £16,795 to £9,495 -- should put it in reach of many more wedding and social photographers. They were traditional users of Hasselblad film cameras but did not follow the brand with the switch to digital.
"The price reduction is proving popular," says Simon Barnard, managing director of Hasselblad UK. "We're already winning back some of our old customers."
