Gear Galore from Sigma

Sigma announced lots of gear during the recent Photokina show, chief of which is the replacement of its SD14 camera with a new model – the manufacturer’s flagship SD15.
It is the latest in Sigma’s DSLR SD series, powered by the same 14-megapixel, APS-C size Foveon X3 direct image sensor currently used in the SD14, DP1 and new DP2. The inclusion of the new ‘TRUE II’ image processing engine, says Sigma, “provides high resolution power and reproduces high-definition images rich in gradation and impressive three-dimensional detail."
Improvements over the SD14 include a larger three-inch LCD screen and improved processing and operational speed.
The Sigma SD15 is still in development and details were limited at time of going to press. As soon as we get more information, we’ll let you know.
Sigma has also launched a replacement for its DP1 in the shape of the DP2, a similar camera that incorporates an identical 20.7x13.8mm image sensor, offering 14-megapixel resolution.
Improvements over its predecessor include a newly designed 24.2mm f/2.8 lens and TRUE II image processing engine, as previously described, for faster operation and start-up time.
Sigma has also launched four lenses specifically for use with DSLRs sporting APS-C sensors. The first is a 4.5mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM fisheye lens, offering 13.5cm minimum focus distance, minimum aperture of f/22 and weight of 470g. It is available now with Sony and Pentax mounts, priced £600.
The second in the line-up is the 10mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM fisheye lens, with 13.5cm minimum focus distance, minimum aperture of f/22 and weight of 475g. It is available now with Sony and Pentax mounts, priced £450. The third is the 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM, providing a minimum focus distance of 38cm, minimum aperture of f/22, and 82mm filter size. It will be manufactured with Sigma, Nikon, Canon, Pentax and Sony AF mounts. Price and availability were not confirmed at time of going to press.
The final lens to be announced is the 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Four-Thirds unit, offering a 45cm minimum focus distance, minimum aperture of f/16 and weight of 520g. It is available now, priced £380.
